short political rant
Jan. 4th, 2012 03:06 pmThere are lots of news articles today trying to explain Santorum's finish in terms of demographics, in terms of what "the base" is looking for, etc etc. But I just wanted to mention a point about caucuses: you get to stand up and try to convince other people to vote for your candidate. Maybe he did better because, once people got to the caucuses, they were actually swayed by the arguments their neighbors made.
(See also: things I hate about political reporting. Demographics and polls are really useful for describing the current opinion, but they don't say anything about what makes people change their minds or stick to their present beliefs.)
ETA: with NSFW language.
