Anniversaries
Apr. 9th, 2013 07:55 pmSo...ten years ago, I got an LJ.
Looking backward in time, I got an LJ halfway between now and second grade.
I got an LJ before I had even heard of the research topic that I do for a living.
With (I think) five exceptions, I got an LJ before I knew anybody on my flist, which is crazy to think about because you're all so awesome!
When I got an LJ, Idi Amin, Strom Thurmond, Johnny and June Carter Cash, Nina Simone, and Bob Hope were still alive. Buffy the Vampire Slayer was still on the air, and Farscape had ended less than a month before (although at the time I had never seen either of those shows, and they're now 2 of my favorite 3). Ruben Studdard was soon to win American Idol. Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and NCIS had not yet premiered. The human genome had yet to be sequenced. Hungary, Lithuania, Slovakia, Estonia, and Latvia weren't yet members of the EU, though they'd all approve joining by the end of the year. The Lawrence vs. Texas verdict hadn't come down, so sodomy was still illegal in a number of states. Quvenzhané Wallis wasn't born yet. Exactly the day I started this journal, the US military took control of Baghdad and officially ended the regime of Saddam Hussein.
I'd be a different (and much less cool) person without fandom, so, y'know. Thanks and stuff. :D
