Jul. 22nd, 2012 05:27 pmOh hey, five years since Deathly Hallows came out, eh? (Well, five years and one day.)
Right about now I think I'd just gotten new tires put on my car--a mechanic had informed me I was in serious danger of a blowout, and I had to drive to the other end of the city (well, not quite) to pick up a friend who was going to the release party with me. We'd both already read the book thanks to the leaked images that had come out...was it about a week before?
Anyway, there was a great midnight release party at this very Hogwartsian campus building, rented out for the purpose by the local indie bookstore. It was a bit surreal, with some sort of stage show for kids in the auditorium, and lots of people in costume, and two postdocs from my department (I was surprised they were nerdy enough to be there, even though about three years later one of them would prove to be the biggest D&D nerd I've ever played with), and my quantum mechanics professor with his children. We got our books and went back to my place to sleep, since, again, we'd already read it. :D Then out for pancakes in the morning, where a surprising percentage of the patrons were obviously reading the book as well!
here's my post from the release party. My deeply strange post.
