Nice thing about black furniture: if it gets scratched up in a move, all you need to hide the evidence is a Sharpie.

Finding it remarkably easier than expected to unpack/organize...though I suppose this is still the early days (my stuff was delivered starting ~9 hours ago). The new job pays moving costs, luckily, or else this would've been much more stressful. (I still find it a bit odd to hire people to do jobs for me--they kept asking if they could do more, move the boxes around so they weren't stacked so high, etc. But I'm used to doing all that myself--this is move #6 in the last 8 years, or move #9 in 10 years if we count dorm stuff. The teams at both ends complimented me on/thanked me for my packing skills, because I have a lot of books but none of the boxes were overly heavy. Also, they were probably extra willing to help because I am a polite young fat white woman and therefore look like I can't lift a thing.) (Which, I add, is mostly true.) (You know, I think that's the first time I've ever unconsciously referred to myself as a woman? Weird. I also got offhandedly Dr-ed earlier in the week, which was nifty.)

I am resolved to get rid of some of my crap before the next time I have to move. Holy hell do I have a lot of boxes.

Oh! And. The boxes were stored in a warehouse for a while, for reasons of scheduling, and well...next time I move EVERY POSSIBLE OUTLET is getting taped. A few dead bugs (not a problem) and one VERY ALIVE GIANT SPIDER AUGH. I mean, more than an inch across with legs, and um meaty.

Also, walking the 2.1 miles to work for the first time, without thinking to print out a map* beforehand, is probably not a thing you should do when it is 90 degrees and sunny. I might have a slight sunburn. In freaking September!

*I am about 1.4 miles as the crow flies, so you can see there are a lot of twists and turns in the path...basically, 85% of the walk is through a GIANT HILLY PARK. Did I mention that New Town has hills? Lots of hills. I am not used to hills.

Made myself laugh earlier: getting a visit from Aunt Flo (ugh) and when I got home I wanted to change into shorts...and my only clean pair were bright red. Heh heh heh. So now I'm thinking about the brown pants joke.

The period is actually kind of surprising: I know I talk about this sometimes, but I have polycystic ovary syndrome (or possibly a type of lipodystrophy, which in my case would be like PCOS only more so) and I can literally count on one hand the number of periods I've had without pharmaceutical intervention. For the last, hmm, nine months or so, I've been mostly without treatment because nothing the (very excellent) endocrinologist tried had sufficient effect without serious side effects. I've been doing progesterone challenges, though, which basically means I take progesterone for a couple of weeks and then stop, which would cause a period if there was anything there to be shed. Traditionally my hormones are so out of whack that there isn't, so, period free. Well...now there is. This is time #7 trying the pills this year, it's the first one that's worked, and it's the first one since I passed my thesis defense.

Stress has a strong effect on my body y/y? *sigh* Anyway, pain in the neck, but a relief in other ways.

*looks at post* Hmm, it appears "telling stories in tiny chunks" is a thing I do in nonfiction as well as fiction.

In related news, please put some kind of separator between scenes in your fics when you post to the AO3, not just extra line breaks. The extra line breaks are ignored by the .mobi formatting at least, and since now I'm apparently the kind of person who reads fanfic on my Kindle on the bus, this is something I care about deeply...
